Our 2024 Speakers

Michael Schlossman
A Founding Partner and Executive Director at Versa Pointe, a concierge recovery program where treatment-resistant men can recover in world class amenities.  He has been sober since 2010 and is living proof that people can not only change but they can actually transform.

Originally from Greenwich, Connecticut, Michael received his BA from The George Washington University and a Juris Doctor from New York Law School. His career began on Wall Street and, ultimately, founded a prestigious, multimillion-dollar television production company.

In 2001, the trajectory of Michael’s life dramatically changed when a work-related injury compounded his alcoholism and led to a 10-year battle with addiction to prescription medication.  That battle cost him his company, his marriage, and nearly his own life.

Today, with over a dozen years of sobriety, Michael leads a transformed life.  Along the way, Michael transitioned careers and became a therapist, coach, spiritual counselor, and motivational speaker, helping countless others towards health and wellness.

Michael is admitted to the bar in both New York and Florida.  He is a Board Member of the Florida Association of Recovery Residences and the Chairperson Emeritus of the Palm Beach County Behavioral Health, Substance Use and Co-Occurring Disorder Steering Committee. Michael is also a former candidate for the New York City Council and has managed two US Congressional races.  While success has brought Michael incredible joy and great rewards, he boasts that his greatest achievement in life is his incredibly bright and beautiful 19-year old daughter, a college sophomore at New York University.

DEBBIE STRAND, CRRA, NCRC, CRSS, CEI

Debbie Strand began her sobriety journey in 2004 recovering from alcohol and variety of other substances. Trauma bred the insecurities that were the driving force behind her addiction.  She felt at home as soon as she was sharing her story and beginning to help others in 12-step recovery.

In 2007 Debbie became a co-host on the national show “Recovery Radio Live” and simultaneously became the show’s executive producer, scheduler and business manager.  Not long thereafter Debbie launched her own weekly show “Sober In The City” which is currently ranking in the Self-Help podcast category.

Debbie acquired a vast amount of experience, working with others, facilitating group meetings, speaking at treatment centers, managed a sober living home and ran a 501c3 non-profit organization for many years.

In 2019 Debbie opened Choices Sober Houses, a new business model and standards-based sober living community.  Choices currently manages seven sober living houses with 65 clients on a rotating basis.

Throughout her career, Debbie has become a Certified Recovery Support Specialist, a Certified Interventionist, Recovery Coach, Resident Recovery Administrator and Public Speaker, and she continues her education constantly seeking the best methods and means to help people with the same affliction that haunted her for many years. Debbie has become a powerful voice for others, who could not find their own.  The lessons that she has learned have helped them maintain their sobriety, deal with their past and find their future. “My proudest moment and grandest accomplishment was rescuing my father from a hospital during Covid and help him gently pass surrounded by family at home at the age of 96.  All made possible by my sobriety.” – Debbie Strand. Today you can find Debbie hosting Sober In The City, traveling with friends, spending time in the skybox cheering on her beloved Florida Gators, on the Palm Beach County shoreline, but mostly attached to her phone always ready to answer someone’s call for help.

Georgina Felix

For as long as Georgina can remember, it has been her life calling to fight for equality, equal opportunity, and fair treatment for all. Since childhood, she has prioritized her family,  friends, co-workers and peers, and poured her soul into supporting them unconditionally. And  for the last almost twenty years in the airline industry, she has continued to do so.

Georgina has worked frontlines and behind the scenes to ensure employees’ rights and their families were protected. She stood on Capitol Hill and met with Congressman and Senate to ensure the passing of  the Airport Rage Act, making it a federal offense to assault airline ticket agents, a major  milestone for the industry.

Currently in her second term, Georgina has saved over 150 jobs  and, in addition to these jobs, has won back  jobs for more than fifty terminated employees. She has worked relentlessly to improve workplace environments at airports from Miami to Chicago, providing team building and leadership training to American Airlines management.

Georgina has served as a union leader in multiple roles. Starting as a Shop Steward,  Georgina Felix quickly earned her way to Secretary Treasurer, Vice President, and in 2017, was elected to become President for CWA Local 3140. Less than a year later (2018,) Georgina Felix became the first ever union President to incorporate a private, union run Employee Assistance Program.

Through her program, EAP3140, Georgina has saved over 77 lives and impacted hundreds more. To best serve as the program’s director, she has continued her education, becoming certified as a Resource Counselor, Interventionist and Life Coach. She has received extensive training for  crisis response, conflict resolution and effective communication.

Georgina has continued to foster constructive, valuable relationships with non-profit organizations to provide first response, financial support, healthy meals, and additional resources for employees and their families when in need. And as a woman of community, gives back to these very organizations through volunteering her time and resources on a regular basis.

Georgina currently serves on numerous committees, including the Labor Council for Latin American Achievement, Labor Assistance Professionals, the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, Women in Aviation, and AFL- CIO. Serving her community has and will remain the most important work she can do, and her dedicated team is always right beside her.   Georgina also serves on 3 Boards of Directors. These boards support community services for trauma, mental health and addiction issues through community affairs.  She presently serves on the board of One Brother One Sister , a nonprofit supporting trauma and addiction services for First responders, union representatives and front line workers;  EAP FL serving the southern US area and Florida Addiction treatment Coalition, serving the communities in Florida.
